Second Hand Husband - Movie review
Actor Govinda’s daughter Tina Ahuja (Narmmadaa) is being launched in this romantic comedy. So is this one Gippy Grewal's debut in Bollywood too. Gurpreet (Tina Ahuja) and Rajbir (Gippy Greval) are in love and want to marry each other. Gurpreet is a practising lawyer and Rabjir has filed for divorce from his ex-wife Neha (Geeta Basra). Gurpreet's parents are open to this idea, however her brother (Ravi Kishan) is against his daughter getting married to a 'second hand husband'. The brother dreams of getting his sister married to a bachelor Punjabi boy in Canada as he too gets a chance to go to Canada. The only hitch stopping this couple is the alimony amount of Rupees 30,000 per month that Rajbir has to pay every month to his ex-wife, Neha. While Rajbir earns barely 45,000 a month. Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho, film review
A political satire loosely based on a real event in Rajasthan, in which a high court sentenced a boy to jail for allegedly raping a buffalo. Debutant Director Vinod Kapri's film is set somewhere in Haryana instead, and thats the reason that the film has a mix of Hindi and Haryanvi dialogues. The film opens on a colorful beginning, in a rustic 'mela' (village fair) with surprises all around. A pundit claiming to bring a Goddess to life in the form of a young girl sitting on a chair in a static blessing posture. The villagers seem to be convinced. Other attractions include, apart from the stand giant wheels, merry-go-round, a sensuous item song "Naach Basanti" and the a beauty competition of buffaloes. UVAA means the ‘youth’ where one’s teenage years are a combination of Love, friendship, romance, fun and frolic. Vibrant and Colurful is life of these youth as depicted in UVAA which is the story of 5 friends in the school. It is the story of comradeships and camaraderie in the adolescence phase of ones life. The concept appears interesting which is let down by its pacing and story telling. There are moments with sparks of brilliance from the characters of UVAA which are then diluted with repeatedly display of over the top emotions. It begins with the introduction of the dysfunctional Mehra family which consists of Kamal Mehra (Anil Kapoor) a self made successful businessman who is on the verge of bankruptcy. His wife is Neelam Mehra (Shefali Shah) who is often sarcastic in relating to him, yet she showers all her motherly love (and pampers) her grown up laadla Kabir Mehra (Ranveer Singh). A period drama of the 60s, a visual treat of Bombay of that era, Bombay Velvet is created with artistic grandeur, has been let down by a confusing plot. Anurag Kashyap has to be applauded for lavishly recreating Bombay of the 60s. This is where it ends as the film has neither the entertainment factor or the chilly seriousness of a mafia ruling the politics and maneuvering the city plans for its benefits. Anushka Sharma is the cute fashionable jazz singer Rosie who sparkles in embellished body-fitting gowns. Bombay Velvet revolves around the story of how Bombay transformed its landscape during the 60s and 70s and the corrupt administration, which is hand in glove with the mill owners and the rich.
