HERO - 1983
This movie out and out belonged to the hero of the film, a new face. A bit of background of HERO is warranted here. Subhash Ghai the self-proclaimed showman of the film industry (a title earlier enjoyed by Raj Kapoor), wanted a replacement for Sanjay Dutt with whom he had a difficult time during the shooting of ‘Vidhataa’ after a search he zeroed in on Jaikishen Kakubhai Shroff or Jackie Shroff as we know him today and who is also lovingly called Jaggu Dada. Before this movie which catapulted Jackie and the heroine of the film Meenakshi Sheshadri (Miss India 1981) to unprecedented fame, both had done forgettable roles in ‘Swami Dada’ and ‘Painter Babu’ respectively. This blockbuster hit and third highest grosser of the year was released on 16th December 1983. It was refreshing to see new faces in a slightly different narrative while the Big B still ruled the roost in the ....

Hum Tum Shabana - movie review
Two guys, one girl….seems like a simple enough love triangle right? Wrong! The film Hum Tum Shabana has romance, crazy bhais, rapchik items and dhamaal fun. There is nothing simple about this madcap story, especially when their rivalry to woo her lands them into a crazy contest of epic proportions. Soon enough, this battle to woo the girl, turns into a desperate battle to lose the girl! With a comic guru like Sagar Ballary at the helm, a super-talented comedic cast and a crackling music score, this is one drama which falls short of expectations. The film has a plot that is absurd at various points, but it does have a twist in the tale towards the post-interval portions. Rishi (Tusshar Kapoor) and Kartik (Shreyas Talpade) compete with each other to woo the same girl - Shabana (Minissha Lamba). Beginning with a little twist here - the woman they run after has an underworld conne ....

Hostel, movie review
Few Indians are aware of the number of suicides that occur in Indian Hostels as a result of the phenomenon termed as ‘Ragging’. This sadistic practice has become a ritual wherein students are beaten up, stripped, paraded naked, starved, tortured, molested and even raped by their seniors. Hostel movie review... Since victims of ragging find it humiliating to report sexual abuse to their parents or others, most ragging-related crimes go unreported. Munnabhai MBBS and even 3 Idiots had a scene or two about this suffering which is called as ragging. Thus, this cruel practice continues year after year and has claimed (and is still claiming) the lives and careers of innumerable students. Hello Darling movie review... Three beautiful women teaming up together to take on their lustful womanizing boss in a hilarious series of events which in the end prove that Women will Rule! The film is a light comedy starring Gul Panaag, Eesha Koppikhar and Celina Jaitley as the three women and Jaaved Jaffrey as the boss. There are many Hollywood comedies on the subject of battle of the sexes but Hello Darling fails to make a mark. The screenplay and direction are a mish-mash of funny gags that simply don’t go down well. The story of Hello Darling is simple, a vice-president of a Mumbai based fashion house, Hardik Vasu (Javed Jaffrey), simply cannot keep his eyes off the women who work in his enterprise. ....
