Thank You – movie review

A comedy preaching the married men about hazards of running after girls

Thank You, movie review

Having given commercial hits like Welcome and Singh Is Kingg, Anees Bazmee is back with Thank You – yet another comedy again with his lucky mascot Akshay Kumar. It is an expensive film, shot in the fascinating locales of Greece, London, Thailand, Mumbai and Turkey. Thank You movie review…

Raj, Yogi and Vikram – best friends, business partners, serial womanizers and happily married! Happy, because their lovely wives have no clue that their husbands cheat on them with every pretty young thing they can lay their eyes on.

This film is based on infidelity of lecherous husbands who openly cheat on their wives. It is picturised in the high pitched night clubs and beautiful locales of Toronto and Vancouver in Canada. ‘Thank You’ shows the ladies as the classic Indian wife which we could see in those bollywood movies of last century. Have the times not changed?

At least not for the characters of Thank You and since this is a film about the risk of skirt-chasing there are plenty of women in skirts most of them scantily dressed.

We have three lecherous husbands Raj (Bobby Deol), Vikram (Irrfan Khan) and Yogi (Suneil Shetty), who are not only big womanizers but also openly cheat on their wives Sanjana (Sonam Kapoor), Shivani (Rimi Sen) and Maya (Celina Jaitly) respectively.

This picture perfect world is rocked when Raj’s wife, Sanjana begins to suspect her husband and hires the suave private detective, Kishan (Akshay Kumar) to tail him. The detective has built his reputation as a man who saves marriages by getting erring husbands to mend their ways.

The detective is bent towards proving the husband guilty and in the process he also exposes Vikram and Yogi.

In this particular case, however, Kishan’s overwhelming attraction towards Sanjana means he may not be acting in her best interest! What follows is a crazy cat and mouse game, with the private detective trying to catch the husbands with their pants down literally and them attempting to just stay outside his grasp.

There are many bits and pieces which seem lifted from director Anees’s previous films like No Entry and No Problem. Mallika Sherawat has an item number Razia phas gayi and Vidya Balan makes a special appearance. Also featuring in this film is a remixed cult number Pyar Do Pyar Lo from Feroze Khan’s Jaanbaaz.

Irrfan Khan, splendidly enacts his lecherous character. Akshay Kumar is back in his element, the experienced actor Sunil Shetty lives upto his expectations. Bobby Deol and Sonam Kapoor form a nice couple.

Thank you gives a generalized view that all men are infidels in marriage and that all Indian women are saints and goody housewives who have blind trust on their husbands.

The film starts off well and then on, especially, the second half seems unbearable to say the least with many silly situations and the jokes that don’t work. Thank You has many embarrassing moments with suggestive dialogues. Be careful.
