Rohit Gupta’s film career began with the documentary film ‘Hope Against Darkness.’ This inspiring film revolves around the life of a ‘divyang’ child and his dreams of becoming a musician. The film received critical acclaim and won the prestigious ‘Best Documentary Award’ at the Rajasthan International Film Festival in 2015.

Exploring Social Issues with ‘Death Book 2’

Encouraged by the success of his debut film, Gupta directed the short film ‘Death Book 2.’ This unique horror parody carries a powerful social message, highlighting the detrimental effects of excessive social media addiction among the youth. ‘Death Book 2’ was selected as India’s entry for the renowned Cannes International Film Festival’s Short Film Corner. Gupta’s participation in various workshops during the festival further honed his skills, and he even had the privilege of walking the prestigious Red Carpet alongside industry stalwarts like Nawazuddin and Anurag Kashyap.

Recognition for ‘Dand- the Punishment’ and ‘The Best is Yet to Come’

Gupta’s talent continued to shine with his short film ‘Dand- the Punishment,’ which won the Best Film on Women award at the esteemed Calcutta International Cult Film Festival in 2017. This thought-provoking film, shot in Bah and Chambal, sheds light on the issue of witch hunting. It was later acquired by Pocket Films and garnered over 1 million views. In the same year, Gupta’s inspirational short film ‘The Best is Yet to Come’ won a silver award at CICFF. This film tells the story of a model’s courageous battle with breast cancer and was released on ‘Pocket Films.’

‘Masala Steps’: A Tale of Inspiration

In 2020, Gupta wrote and directed the highly acclaimed film ‘Masala Steps.’ Starring Vikram Kocchar and national award-winning actress Prakruti Mishra, this captivating film revolves around a depressed businessman who finds inspiration from a rope walker, ultimately preventing him from committing suicide. ‘Masala Steps’ received rave reviews and garnered over 24 official selections and 8 awards for best writer-director. It was acquired by ‘Disney Hotstar’ and ‘Six Sigma,’ amassing over 700,000 views in a short period. The film was also nominated for the prestigious Shorted Platform award. Additionally, the music video ‘I am Waiting Zindagi’ was released on popular platforms like Amazon Music, Spotify, and YouTube Music.

Documentaries and Social Impact

Gupta’s passion for storytelling extends beyond fiction films. He released the documentary ‘Ek Rajpur Kissan’ on platforms like Mx Player, Hungama, and Diverse Cinema. Gupta’s commitment to creating impactful films led him to write and direct ‘Good Samaritan-Saves Life,’ another short film for the Rajasthan Sadak Soochna Vibhag. This heartwarming story highlights how a common citizen can help a victim in a road accident. The film, released on ‘Hungama and Diverse Cinema’ in the USA, showcases the inspiring tale of a young school girl who aids an ice cream vendor injured in a road accident.

Upcoming Projects and Achievements

Currently, Gupta is working on his debut web series titled ‘Bhartipur,’ a thrilling narrative centered around recruitment scams. Drawing from his experiences working in various government departments, this web series is set to be released on a leading platform in 2025.

Stitched ship Documentary

Just like Mission to Mars, India is taking another scientific expedition with support of Indian Navy and Ministry of Culture, of recreating the fifth century ship. This would be created just like what Indian Mariners use to create, by stitching the ship. They had no GPS or NPS system or any sophisticated scientific data, but stil they were able to take long expeditions.
“Indian sailors have navigated the Indian Ocean for at least 5,000 years. We have evidence of Indian traders reaching the Middle East, including Oman, as far back as the Bronze Age, when copper trade flourished. The influence of Indian maritime culture extends across Asia, yet it remains underexplored in our historical discussions.”
I have been lucky enough to be the part of documenting this recreation as a Documentary as a director and producer. Currently its 18 months project is shot in Goa and Devar Island. We carry crew monthly and sometimes we round the clock.
Its going to be one of its kind project and its expected to test waters next year mid. After that we expect it to be flagged off to OMAN from India.

Historic shipbuilding project rekindles Oman and India ties

The Documentary is 45 minute each consisting of two episode, recreation and sailing.
