Joker (Hindi Film)

Sometimes “Being Alien”, is the only option

After his astonishing performance in the super duper hit Rowdy Rathore, released a few months back, Akshay Kumar disappoints in this film.

Joker – movie review…

No wonder, he is nowhere to be seen in almost all the events promoting this film. This is Shirish Kunder’s second directorial venture after his moderately successful film Tees Maar Khan.

Supposed to be India’s first ever extra-terrestrial drama-comedy – Joker, the only positive substance in Joker is that it does not include any double meaning jokes or for that matter anything which you cannot watch with your family and kids around.

Ever wondered if aliens were to visit a village that is not on the map of our country, what hell would break loose?!

Agasthya’s village Paglapur, doesn’t appear in the maps of the three states that surround it and nor does any one want to call it their own.

During the Colonial rule, Paglapur was the place where the insane and mentally retarded patients were treated and it was thus named. Since then, the inhabitants include rejects of society who have all escaped from a mental institution.

Called back from abroad, Agasthya’s father is the Mukhiya (Darshan Jariwala) who has missed his son for a such long time, and thus Agasthya comes along with his girl friend Diva (Sonakshi Sinha).

Joker is the story of Agastya (Akshay Kumar), a researcher probing the existence of aliens in the universe, who returns to his small little native village. The out of luck Agastya takes it upon himself to put his crazy village on the global map and continues with his alien exploration from there.

For them it is shocking to understand about Paglapur’s pressing water situation and the situation that none of the 3 chief ministers are concerned about this place and its somewhat 600 inhabitants.

Then, the  scientist Agasthya and Diva come up with an ingenious plan to create such circumstances which is lapped up by the media and shown all over the world about the landing of an UFO in their village.

Overnight the conditions change in Paglapur, and water supply as well as the electricity is provided and then there is dance drama. But this is short lived as a doubting scientist discovers the plan.

While his plan gets the village attention from across the world, it also comes with a great deal of risk.

Will aliens save the day for Akshay? Or will his plans fall like a pack of cards?
