Bobby Jasoos – Film review

Bobby’s a darling ... and a family mystery solved

Vidya Balan's Bobby Jasoos

Bobby aka Bilkish (Vidya Balan) in the guise of a Durvesh, spying on her childhood friend is the opening scene in the film. Her friend is having an affair with the local goon aka Lala ( Arjun Bajwa – restrained performance). Bobby Jasoos movie review.

Bobby Jasoos is a film that celebrates the aspiration of Bobby, who wants to become the number one detective in the old city area of Hyderabad. The film is directed by Samar Shaikh, produced by Dia Mirza and Sahil Sangha.

Bobby has a penchant for disguise and big dreams as she wants to be a Jasoos, but as luck would have it she is not able to go beyond spying on youngsters and snooping around for the locals and breaking engagements for a small fees , she wants to be an ace detective but ends up being ACE VENTURA .

Until one day a mysterious big shot Anees Khan (Kiran Kumar – good to see the veteran back on screen) in his swanky car comes to her door step with an offer for a case to locate a girl with specific birth mark and not much to go on, it is a challenge to Bobby who sets to work in the right earnest , Mr. Money bags also promises her big payoff if the case is solved.

In her endeavor she is helped by a motley local mohalla Hyderabadis and a T.V. journo Tassavur (Ali Fazal-her client and due to certain circumstances also her beau), she goes about solving the case , fighting her middle class Muslim environs and a strict father (Rajendra Gupta- well depicted), its only her mother (Supriya Pathak) who loves her beyond her follies.

After cracking the first case she is then given a second case with even bigger fees which she cracks with ease, but then a sudden realization dons on her that may be she is caught in something wrong and has to do a background check of her client.

That’s when all hell breaks loose in her personal and professional life, further how she deals with her predicaments and wins over all those who opposed her, including her father and solves a 20 yr. old family mystery forms the rest of the narrative.

The movie has a small canvas , not much of a story, but is big in entertainment. Few punches like Bobby turning the table on his beau are enjoyable.

The mandatory emotional track in the climax is predictable. All characters are well etched and act well, Balan is easy to the eyes only in the acting department needs to urgently lose some weight as she looks much older to her hero.

It was good to see yesteryear character artists but Zarina Wahab was wasted in a minuscule role.

A family entertainer and feel good movie. A mystery solved.
