Movie Review – 5 Ghantey Mein 5 Crore
Sultan (Ranjeet) who heads Sultam Corporation is to invest in a farm house and he deputes his accountant to carry the hard cash of Rupees Five Crores (about a million dollars) to deliver it.
5 Ghantey mein 5 Crore is the story of chartered accountant Vikram (Shawar Ali) and his keep Soniya (Meera) who are waiting for another Accountant Muqaadam (Rashid Khan) to deliver 5 Crores Hard Cash at their Farm House.
Vikram works for Sultan Corporation which is owned by Sultan. As soon as Muqaadam delivers the money, Vikram and Sonia plan to kill Muqaadam and escape to Singapore next day with 5 Crores to start a new life.
They go exactly by their plan and are successful in eliminating Muqaadam, and even manage to bury his body in the backyard.
Now enters Karan Oberoi (Abhishek Kumar) whose car breaks down in front of Vikram’s Farm House.
Karan also happens to be Soniya’s Junior ex-classmate in her College. Reshma Salahuddin (Kavita Radheshyam) is an exotic Bar dancer who is 3 months pregnant and is waiting for her boyfriend Muqaadam to return.
It is Sultan bhai who gives a decent life to Reshma. Bar dancers in India are looked down upon as the common belief that they double up as hookers. Reshma too, wants to give up this profession and with Sultan bhai’s help she is able to achieve respectability and aspires to lead a normal life of that a housewife and then play the role of an ideal mother.
To her utter dismay, she finds out Muqaadam is killed and with Sultan bhai’s help unearths the dead body of her life partner.
Soniya is a sexy yet manipulative personality, and would go to any extent to achieve the ultimate goal in her life – of a lavish lifestyle.
Meera is cute and beautiful. At times she is very convincing as the manipulative woman. Ahishek Kumar has the yuppie look. Shawar Ali is quite menacing in his role as the planner and executor of the proceedings.
Then on starts a Dirty Game of Love, Betrayal, Murder and Deceit. Three People with 5 Hours to go and with 5 Crores Hard Cash
Veteran actor Ranjeet could well have been given a major role in this twisty tale. The voluptuous Kavita Radheshyam as the bar dancer is very true to her character.
It has a deft handling of the direction which uses creatively the flashbacks as and when required at frequent moments which establish the reasoning of the behavior of central characters.
Cinematography is a shade below average, which is balanced by a crisp screenplay that keeps the viewer hooked on to till the climax.
5 Ghantey Mein 5 Crore is a psycho thriller and Pakistani actress Meera in a pivotal role lends a credible effort.
