Mere Dad ki Maruti – movie review

Its madness and mayhem in a big fat Indian wedding

It is the backdrop of a big, fat Punjabi wedding set in Chandigarh in the film Mere Dad ki Maruti. The wedding is set to take place at the Khullars House. The father of the bride buys a new Maruti car that’s supposed to be offered as the wedding gift. It is just a day left for the wedding, and the brand new car goes missing.

Mere Dad ki Maruti – movie review…

Tej Khullar (Ram Kapoor) is a strict dad. As a person, this stingy man is excited about getting things free and always on the lookout for it around him. Tej Khullar has a son and a daughter.

His daughter is to be married soon and for the occasion he has to fulfill a wish – to give away a Maruti car to his daughter on her marriage.

The stingy dad’s son is Sameer Khullar (Saqib Saleem). For the father Sameer is a good-for-nothing kid, and hence his staunch attitude towards Sameer. The father-son duo cannot see eye to eye.

As it happens in a typical Indian wedding, the preparations have begun and there is chaos and madness all around this crazy family.

Sameer sneaks into his dad’s new Maruti car, sets out to impress the popular hot chick of his college – Jasleen (Rhea Chakraborty).

Poor chap Sameer, he looses the car and then all hell breaks loose.

Rest of the film is about the hurdles, madness and commotion as Sameer tries to get it back, with the help of his friend Gattu (Prabal Panjabi) and his new girl friend, Jasleen/Jazzleen.

This whacky comedy film is loud in several situations, yet it is paced well giving no room for boredom.

Mere Dad ki Maruti has creditable performances from Prabal Punjabi, Saqib and the veteran Ram Kapoor. Mere Dad ki Maruti does have its negative elements like the presence of a few loose ends in the plot. Overall, it has witty dialogues, funny characters and is a watchable film, a hilarious story with a contemporary twist.

With a refreshing plot, well sketched out characters, Mere Dad ki Maruti should appeal to all ages.
