Roshan (Abhishek Bachchan) travels from USA to India with his ailing grandmother (Waheeda Rehman). Little does he know that this quick trip will turn into the longest journey of his life… Delhi 6 movie review…
A journey within! Thats Delhi 6
Roshan’s grandmother wants to retire and spend the last leg of her life back home; dissolving into the soil she was born in. In America, having lead a very western lifestyle Roshan is not familiar with the sites and smells, the food and culture, the religion and beliefs, this huge melting pot that India is.
He thought that Dadi left her family and loved ones back in America only to realize that how wrong he was. The warmth and affection of the neighborhood embraces him with open arms.
Initially greeted by a mad rush of his dadi’s neighbors, Roshan is amazed at the pomp and the warmth of the people around his dadi’s old home in Delhi. There are families of the feuding brothers staying divided in the same property, the halwai shop owner and the others. He accompanies his grandma to the Ramleela functions, hangs around at the sweet shop, goes for jogs and is beginning to get used to the atmosphere of Delhi.
Among the neighbors, there is this girl Bittu (Sonam Kapoor) who is a typical contemporary Delhi girl. Simple on the surface, within she is yearning to do something in her otherwise lackluster life where one fine day she would be married to a boy of her parents choice. At home she is in salwars, but once out of her area, she puts on a modern attire, aspiring to be the next Indian Idol.
There is also a parallel topic of the ‘Kala Bandar’ (Black Monkey) which is in the news media is all abuzz with tales of a fearsome terror. This miscreant (never identified ) supposedly attacks people, steals various articles and is expected to be a cause of death of a few innocent people. None of these proved, yet the buzz of Kala Bandar is even used by some for their advantage.
Amidst all this he meets the beautiful Bittu, who is looking for identity and expression and wants to break free from the typical Indian social structure, to whom Roshan is destine to lose his heart.
The story of Delhi 6 is told against the backdrop of the ancient walled city of Delhi who is a character in herself. A city that represents the chaos of Indian people, their religion and their beliefs. The pin code of this old city is 110006. With pride and love they call it Delhi-6.
Delhi-6 is a journey… a journey within. We are all living in difficult times. Delhi-6 urges us to look within and if there is an answer then it is love, because that’s the law of nature and its creation.
