A shocking incident occurred in Naigaon in the outskirts of Mumbai, where a one and a half month old puppy was brutally raped in Mumbai’s suburb Naigaon East. A neighboring girl Manisha came to know about the brutality meted out towards that puppy ‘Vijay’ by a 25 year old youth who raped this puppy. When the young man’s mother was talked to about this, his mother had a light attitude towards the incident, saying that the young man is not mentally healthy. After registering an FIR with great difficulty, the police caught that boy and then released him as there are no stringent laws in our country that can punish those who behave in cruelty and commit harm to animals.
“We all appeal to the government to make strict laws to protect animals from rape and cruelty,” says well known Television and Bollywood actress Jaya Bhattacharya stressing that the purpose of this press meet is to draw attention to the seriousness of such a crime, to demand justice for Vijay/Tiger (a 1 and half month old puppy dog who was repeatedly raped) and to demand strict punishment for cruelty and abuse against animals.
Thank You Earth – Jaya Bhattacharya’s NGO
Famous TV actress and animal activist Jaya Bhattacharya is also known for her deep love and concern for animals. She is the founder of the NGO Thank You Earth – that is dedicated to provide medical services. Speaking exclusively to Paresh B. Mehta, Editor of Filmytown.com, Jaya Bhattacharya disclosed, “I do not charge a single anna for anyone’s registration or fostering. I try to help the needy animal as much as I can from my pocket and I don’t ask anywhere for contribution for such causes. It is my self esteem or you can say my ego that prevents me to do so. We have made arrangements for handicapped cats and dogs in a rented place. Dr Mahalakshmi Muthuraj, the Vet Surgeon tries as much as she can to help us.”
Jaya Bhattacharya along with animal lovers has demanded justice for the puppy Vijay/Tiger. She called for action against animal cruelty in a press conference. Jaya Bhattacharya addressed the media to demand action against the cruel and heartbreaking crime committed against Vijay/Tiger at Karmveer Sports Complex, Andheri West, Mumbai. Tiger is only a one and half month old puppy, who was raped repeatedly. This heinous crime emphasizes the urgent need for strict laws and immediate action to prevent such crimes against animals.

The Senior police inspector and animal lover Sudhir Kudalkar said that the criminal who commits indecent acts with animals should be given police custody for four to five days. He should be arrested on non-bailable charges and a fine of Rs 25,000 should be imposed on him. We all will appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah that those who commit atrocities on animals should not be spared but the law should be changed and strict laws need to be made against them.
Jaya Bhattacharya became emotional while narrating the story of rape victim Vijay. Her eyes filled with tears. She said that the child (dog puppy) could not walk, was screaming in pain, he was groaning, he was only one and a half months old, he was able to sleep after treatment. I get scared thinking that such is the condition of animals, what wrong happens to human children, what would be their condition.
“Even today, news of rape of a girl child comes in our society. This issue has to be taken in a very sensitive manner. The cruel, monster who can do such things to animals can do the same to humans. I ask humans what do you think of animals. Dogs and cats are also living beings, they also feel pain. Society members say that they don’t want animals in the society building. They are attacked with acid, recently acid was thrown on 22 dogs. I appeal to people that humans should not be cruel, they should connect with the ground,” Jaya appealed.
Jaya Bhattacharya said that she is thankful to senior police officer Vijay Kadam of Naigaon police station that he heard the whole matter and registered an FIR. Jaya Bhattacharya, who is seen as the lead character Kartik’s stepmother Urmila in the TV show ‘Chhathi Maiya Ki Bitiya’, loves animals very much, she is always concerned about their care.
