Shuddh Desi Romance

Does what starts physical always turn into love?

A romantic comedy which tells it like it is; and like it isn’t.

Does what starts physical always turn into love? And what reaches love, always turn into commitment? How do you figure out?

Shuddh Desi Romance is a fresh and real love story about the hair-raising minefield between love, attraction and commitment. Supposedly a romantic comedy that tells it like it is, but it isn’t.

Having a talented cast in this candid look at the affairs of the heart in today’s desi heartland like the endearing Rishi Kapoor, handsome Sushant Singh Rajput, Parineeti Chopra yet it is the debutant Vaani Kapoor who impressed the most.

This rom-com, directed by Maneesh Sharma, written by Jaideep Sahni, and produced by Aditya Chopra is a journey of three restless young people who junk the society’s syllabus for finding love and decide to follow their heart.

Raghu (Sushant Singh Rajput), a tourist guide in Jaipur, wants a love in his life, and that’s it. The rest he’s going to figure out along the way. Raghu doubles up as a help for the wedding planner Goyal (Rishi Kapoor).

Gayatri (Parineeti Chopra), a part-time instructor in an English speaking institute, has been around the block a few times and knows the scene, warts and all.

About to get married to Tara, Raghu is suffering from pre-marital jitters. On his way to his wedding venue, he meets the open minded and free willed Gayatri. He is impressed by this girl’s freedom, and so this confused groom decides to run away from his own wedding.

Tara (Vaani Kapoor), who’s dying to get out there and fly, knows what’s right for her, but a little experimenting never hurt anybody, did it?

Few weeks later, Raghu and Gayatri happen to meet again and begin dating. The duo get into a live-in-relationship and then eventually ‘decide’ to get married.

Raghu is in for the biggest shock of his life. On his wedding day, the independent minded Gayatri runs out on him, and the poor chap is left inconsolably confused.

Post this incident, as luck would have it, Raghu comes across Tara, the same girl he was going to tie the knot with, before he came across Gayatri. Tara has other plans as regards this guy. She wants to give it back to him, having revenge on her mind, but gradually she realizes that now she is serious in her relationship with Raghu.

Raghu gathers guts to announce her to marry him, and just before that, Gayatri re-enters his life.

When their lives crisscross, their beliefs get challenged, and their loves, tested. We all want it all…the love, the attraction, the relationship, the commitment. But when we get it, it may not be in the way we recognize.

As for Sushant Singh Rajput, its better he ought to be remembered for his previous entertainer Kai Po Che. The bubbly Parineeti Chopra is fine, but appears a bit over confident at times. Debutant Vaani Kapoor is refreshing, breezy and then there is the loveable Rishi Kapoor who is graceful.

Shuddh Desi Romance has a youth appeal, an above average film.
