Return of the Dragon Hindi movie review

Return of the Dragon is the dubbed version of the Tamil film Dragon. The film is out and out designed for youth, with a fresh take on complications in life and career in the modern age. Without getting preachy, the team tries to deliver an interesting film with comedy, emotion and thrills.

Ragavan, infamous for his reckless ways and academic struggles, turns to fraud after a heartbreaking breakup, chasing wealth and power. However, his deceit leads him into perilous territory.

Director Ashwath Marimuthu attempts to tell a story of a guy who descends into the depths of depravity only to find the shortest of ropes to hold on and miraculously crawl back to redemption. The movie revolves around a young man who struggles in college with 48 arrears but ends up making a good life for himself. However, life takes an interesting turn after he is forced to return to college and clear the arrears.

The film  Return of the Dragon revolves around D. Raghavan (Pradeep Ranganathan), a good intermediate student, who passes with 96% and gets a seat in a good college. However, he becomes a bad boy because a girl does not accept his proposal. Raghavan fails in 48 subjects in engineering but falls in love with Keerthy (Anupama Parameswaran) in the same college.

After college, Keerthy breaks up with him and marries a good catch. After some dramatic developments, Raghavan gets a job at a software company and becomes successful. His marriage to Pallavi (Kayadu Lohar) is also set. Due to an incident that happens after that, his college principal played by Mysskin comes into Raghavan’s life and asks him to clear his arrears in the college and graduate.

As far as the performances are concerned, Pradeep Ranganathan is promising though he bears a striking resemblance to Dhanush. Pradeep Ranganathan as Raghavan aka Dragon makes you empathise with him even as he repeatedly makes wrong choices.

Anupama Parameswaran’s performance as the heroine is impressive. Kayadu Lohar, who appears as the second heroine, looks very glamorous and wins the audiences over with her performance, though it is Gautham Vasudevan Menon who is superb as the head of the IT company. Yet another director- As Pradeep’s father George Matyan gets into the skin of his character with effortless ease. Mysskin delivers a splendid performance as the principal of the college in this engaging film which is in form.
