Ajab Gazabb Love – movie review

Sanjay Gadhvi of Dhoom fame, tries his hand at comedy

Ajab Gazabb Love is a romantic comedy film directed by Sanjay Gadhvi and produced by Vashu Bhagnani. Jackky Bhagnani and Nidhi Subbaiah play the lead roles, along with Arjun Rampal, Arshad Warsi, Darshan Jariwala and Kirron Kher.

All the characters in this drama try hard to tickle your bones, eventually land up with giggles here and there.

The story is about a poor little rich boy Rajveer (Jackky Bhagnani) who falls in love with a girl Madhuri (Nidhi Subbaiah) who is a strong advocate of social justice and equality. Further, he learns that she ‘hates’ all rich people and will have nothing to do with a rich boy like him.

So here is a rich kid who has a passion for hot-wheels and his ‘dream cars’, falling in love with a girl who hates everything rich. The same girl dons fancy dresses and designer accessories – is a different matter all together.

Rajveer has only one way to impress the girl. So to woo his lady love, this rich kid presents himself as a poor boy whose dad is a fruit vendor. For his son’s sake the rich industrialist dresses up like a fruit seller and moves around with a hand cart hawking bananas. Yes – selling bananas.

The industrialist father has to let go off his designer suits and posh cars, while the boy’s mother plays a blind mother who works as a dress designer to make two ends meet.

And then Rajveer’s brother plays an alcoholic and bhabhi turns into a domestic servant.

What a sacrifice his family does for this kid. And then he romances the girl in dream sequences in exotic outdoor locations and even sings and dances with bikini clad women.

Then enters the girl’s brother and it is chaos and confusion all round.

The film is a remake of Telugu hit ‘Seema Tapakai’, which unfortunately doesn’t work out in Bollywood.

It is more of a romantic film than being funny. Commendable is the combined effort of the director, the characters who try and try hard to make you laugh. In the end you pity them for dishing you such an ordinary fare.
