26th July at Barista – movie review

That dreadful rainy night in Bandra, Mumbai

26th July at Barista movie review

26th July at Barista, 2005

As usual, the day started as any normal Mumbai monsoon day. Children enjoying the rain, and people traveling towards their office or other places unknown to what was in store for them. The usual grumbling going around that our Mumbai Municipal Corporation has done nothing to withstand heavy downpour if it occurs, etc.

Barista is one of the coffee shops in Bandra, a suburb in Mumbai that’s known for its cordial atmosphere and great coffee. Many of them had come to enjoy a cup of coffee and some who wanted to spend their time with friends on a pleasant rainy evening.

26th July at Barista, the movie is a salute to the spirit of Mumbai and World Humanity. The Natural catastrophe which destructed many lives of People and Property and laid the bare fact that nobody is above the nature. But the human spirit moves ahead to fight & make his & other lives for a better tomorrow. An example to glory and fighting spirit of Mumbaikars.

The people from all class and segment of life come under the roof of Barista on that fateful night of 26th July and the trauma they undergo each in his own way.

The Hero and Heroine who are accidentally at Barista console their friends & people at Barista while they are under turmoil and trauma.

Their love is an emotion which is subtle but denotes how love can overcome the saga of natural calamity and two strangers are bound by an unknown feeling which is all prevalent and essence of life.

We also have two complete strangers who did not know that this night would change their lives forever. Even the others at Barista had no idea that the regular Mumbai rainfall which they assumed was would be like any other monsoon day in Mumbai, and it would calm down or the rainfall recede. None of them aware that this experience was going to shatter their lives forever.

Kabir Sawhney is a promising actor, Simran Vaid too, puts in a lot of effort, Rohini Hattangadi is there for a while. Also in it are Raju Kher and Amita Nangia.
However the trouble and agony faced by a group of people stranded in a distant coffee shop are portrayed nicely. At the end of it the viewer could land up in a gloomy state of mind. But the fact is a fact and this is what happened on that dreaded rainy day in Mumbai – 26th July at Barista .

The film shows how a group of these people kept the spirit of Mumbai alive and fought to make sure they all would survive this awful night through whatever means necessary.

We salute the spirit of Mumbai, and its Mumbaikars.
