Mummy Punjabi - movie review
Mummy Punjabi is the 'New Age Mother India', with today's grandeur, intensity, humour & emotions. With the story rooted in Chandigarh, it is about a Punjabi urban mother balances tradition with her own value system. The movie Mummy Punjabi brings to life her realistic vision of life, the joys, pleasures, as well as the social forces experienced by her and the family. To begin with, it is a melodramatic film where the protagonist Baby Arora (Kirron Kher) finds her husband (Kanwaljit Singh) boring as she flirts with her childhood friend Mannu (Shroff) who still holds a flame for her. But she keeps her sons (Viraf Patel and Sachin Sharma) on a tight leash whereas gives full freedom to her daughter. Stanley Ka Dabba - movie review
Amole Gupta has made this path breaking film Stanley Ka Dabba with a limited budget. It was shot entirely using the Canon EOS 7D camera which saved huge amount in the making. But do not let this make you wonder about the film. Stanley Ka Dabba is an honest film which will make you laugh, cry and feel for the school children. Stanley (Partho) is a fourth grade student, talented and popular amongst his friends, also liked by his teachers. But one peculiar thing about this boy, is that he never brings his lunch box or 'dabba' to the school. Imagine this boy in your mind's eye. He arrives in school much before any of his classmates to drum away his blues on empty benches. He stuffs himself with water instead of the nutritious food that his schoolmates relish during the lunch break. There is a Hindi teacher Verma Sir (Amole Gupte) who is popularly called as 'Khadoos', who likes to ....

Monica - movie review
The story of Monica is about the stormy and turbulent relationship between a scheming politician, aspiring to be the Chief Minister of a state in North India and a political journalist aiming to achieve the star status in her field of work. Monica is about love, lust, conspiracy, scams, deception and murder and it is ingeniously constructed by Sushen Bhatnagar who has penned the script and directed the drama. Bollywood has seen several films centred around women journalists like the ones done by Sridevi in Roop Ki Rani, Choron Ka Raaja, Konkona Sen Sharma in Page 3, others starring Dimple Kapadia, Kangana Ranaut and the last memorable flick about Rani Mukherjee in No One Killed Jessica. Yes, this one seems a little different, as the protagonist in this film is diverse from the ones we have seen before. Monica is not just about a media person, but also looks at the various roles ....

Masti Express, movie review
Masti Express the new hindi film has two stories running in parallel: Rajpal Yadav and his wife Divya Dutta's eager desire to have their kid educated in a renowned school and then the auto rickshaw race which also forms a part of the story. Masti Express movie review... Director Vikram Pradhan also succeeds in creating hope in the viewer’s mind who would definitely want only their protagonist to win a race, whether it’s a chariot race, rickshaw race or even a cycle race – as portrayed in English and Hindi films. Masti Express does appeal in parts, not in its entirety. During some moments, the film is engaging, but not throughout as there are many instances or scenes where the story seems to be stuck and leading to nowhere. Raju (Rajpal Yadav) the auto rickshaw driver has a dream. He is impressed by the kids he ferries every morning to a renowned school where the kids study ....

The Last Lear, movie review
The Last Lear is inspired by the famous Bengali actor, activist and playwright Utpal Dutt and his play "Aajker Shahjehan" (The Emperor Today). The play was about the enormous trust and faith that actors repose on those who support their art. Just as much as it is about the betrayals of that very trust. The Last Lear having a Bollywood star cast is an English language film. It has Amitabh, Arjun Rampal and Preity couldn't have been more perfect. Amitabh hogs the limelight not in as towering personality, but as Harish Mishra. Harish Mishra (Amitabh Bachchan) is the protagonist of this offbeat film. The film-within-the film is a lamentation about the dying art of the circus. As winds of change accompanying neo-liberal policies sweep across the country, older cultural forms give way to newer ones. In this moment of transition, trust and treachery collide and crumble. What does a 65 ....

Badlapur - Hindi movie review
A dark thriller with its unique story telling approach gathering momentum with its pace, BADLAPUR has its magnificent camera work and superlative performances from Varun Dhawan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Huma Qureshi. Yet another spine-chiller from Sriram Raghavan who earlier made a notable revenge drama - Ek Hasina Thi (2004) and an out-and-out thriller - Johnny Gaddaar (2007). Badlapur doesn't preach, has no message, it is just a plain thriller which has an unpredictable ending. Raghu's (Varun Dhawan) turns upside down when his wife Misha (Yami Gautam) and son Robin are shot dead (un-intentionally) by the thieves during a bank heist and who ultimately escape. One of them Liak (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) is apprehended by the police, but doesn't reveal the identity of his fellow mate, mentioning that it was the other person who shot the innocent at the bank. Liak claims that he hardly ....
