Sikandar – movie review

A hotchpotch of emotions and excessive action

Sikandar movie review

Sikandar lacks a strong story line and is merely infused with unnecessary action. It is a redemptive relief for Salman Khan fans that he finally displays some improvement in his acting skills and emotions on screen (though this comes at such a late juncture in his long career) however a lot still needs to be done with the dialogues department.

What really appears confusing as to whether the filmmaker intends to pass on the message of humanity, cautioning on ecological disasters or whether it is about a the King of Rajkot and his army on a mission of cleansing ills of the society.

All hopes are shattered. Neither the story nor the super-man like action scenes featuring Salman Khan fighting 200 goons with his five man army sink in one’s mind. One is confused if he is watching an emotional film or rather a super hero flick. In fact the story doesn’t have anything in it worth mentioning.

Rashmika Mandanna appears wooden and is just used as a show-piece, while Kajal Aggarwal is simple with the appearance of a lady next door. While Salman’s acting ability appears improving, there is much desired from his dialogue deliveries. At times, Salman Khan’s appearance looks unpleasant and unfit as a Raja Saheb who walks more like a gym trainer.

The only redeeming factor in Sikandar is that finally one can notice some maturity in expressing emotions in Salman Khan, however he is still stuck up with his typical dialogue delivery, maintaining his flat speeches throughout be it in happiness, anger or casual statements.

It is high time that Salman Khan decides taking up either strong content based flicks or full and full super hero movies. Unfortunately Sikandar doesn’t fit into any of the categories.

There are a few songs grandly picturised and a couple of them running in background, yet none of them are noteworthy. At several moments in the film, the grieving Royal heir is shown helpless and is shown drowning into having alcohol.

It makes us wonder that is it the same director who gave us the fascinating 2008 thriller Ghajini? A R Murugadoss & Salman Khan surely disappoint their fans!
