After a masterpiece like ‘Gandhi – My father’ a sensitive tale of a family, Anil Kapoor Films Company presents Short Kut – The Con is on which is a light hearted entertainer with Bollywood as its backdrop.
Set in Bollywood, Shortkut tells the story of two strugglers. Raju (Arshad Warsi) is the one who makes it big as a Superstar after stealing a script from his friend Shekhar (Akshaye Khanna) whose struggle as a director continues after his friend cheats on him. Short Kut movie review…
Shekhar is a quite, intense guy who is talented yet low key… His value system is sound and his fundas in life are very clear – come what may, there are no short cuts to success. And if you have a dream, protect it. He is an Assistant Director who quits his job and wants to be a full time director.
While Raju bluffs his way out of troubles and comes across as a good for nothing harmless fellow.
Things get really interesting when reigning actress Mansi’s (Amrita Rao) romantic involvement with Shekhar gets culminated into a marriage. Behind her petite delicate frame hides a core of steel. For it needs immense strength to give up a starry career when you are at the top, and even more strength to walk out on your family to be with the man you love.
Shekhar could have got a break as a director, but has a problem that he is in love with an established actress Mansi, and doesn’t want the world to think that it is because of her he has become a director.
She comes back into the film industry after a difference with Shekhar. Now her professional interactions with Raju begin.
To add to the chaos, destiny again brings Raju and Shekhar face to face, when Shekhar is set to direct his first film, with Superstar Raju.
What follows now in Short Kut is a clash of the egos, and immense commotion building upto a fun-filled confusion.
What happens next as the real life drama of the reel unfolds is the crux of the plot of Shortkut.
Akshaye Khanna is immensely talented yet low key, much as the real character he plays in this film. He has reaffirmed that he is good in both comedy and serious roles at the same time.
Amrita Rao, has really changed in her looks and looks better and hot in this film. Arshad Warsi is well known for his out and out comedy, and in this film, as Raju he provides a dark edginess to the loud mouthed character played by him. Chunkey Pandey, is also good in a comic role and plays a convincing role of a partner to Arshad Warsi.
Javed Akhtar has penned a couple of memorable songs, especially the Nikal bhi jaa.
Short kut – The con is on is a fun-filled joyride with a tinge of emotions, with a subtle message in an entertaining format that there is no short cut to success.
At the end of it there is a bit of disappointment on the quality of comedy coming out from Anil Kapoor Films Company, since the level of comedy is expected atleast on the level of drama and intensity which was present in Gandhi My Father.
