Playing for Keeps is an enticing light romantic comedy where Gerard Butler plays the role of an ex-soccer star going through a rough patch and trying to get his life together by resurrecting his bond with ex-wife, played by Jessica Biel, and son by coaching the boy’s soccer team.
George(Gerard Butler) is a charming, down-on-his luck former soccer star who returns home to put his life back together. The former soccer star has fallen on hard times, looks for a way to rebuild his relationship with his son, he gets roped into coaching the boy’s soccer team.
But his attempts to finally become an “adult” are met with hilarious challenges from the attractive “soccer moms” who pursue him at every turn.
However, he has to overcome a lot of distractions from the gorgeous “soccer moms” who are vying for his attention at every turn. The movie’s heartfelt romantic moments are elevated by some light humour and strong themes about life and family.
Playing for Keeps is directed by Gabriele Muccino, the director of “The Pursuit of Happyness” and casts Gerard Butler, Jessica Biel, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Uma Thurman and Dennis Quaid.
Cinematography and Direction are above average. The actors played their characters up to the their highest caliber. Handsome dude Gerard Butler is realistic in his role as the womanizing ex- soccer star ready to be a grownup. Judy Greer as Barb is amusing as her mercurial mood changes, Dennis Quaid’s as a wealthy businessman and a gambler reminds of our Gujaratis who bet on any or every incident. Catherine Zeta-Jones as Denise, the woman who gets a break for George at a popular news channel, still has those stunning looks and sensuality about her.
A fine sensitive, romantic comedy.
