Gulaal, movie review
Gulaal is set in Rajpur a fictional city of Rajasthan, where a member of the erstwhile royal family stakes claim to the land of Rajasthan and wants to go back to the days of royalty which challenges the very idea of democracy. Similar to a Shakespearean fable of desire, lost identities, love, greed, violence, murder, deceit, power and innocence, Gulaal is a film inspired by poetry; the forgotten male, macho world of power, corruption and greed, where women are just means to an end while nobody can be trusted. Jai Veeru, movie review
Jai Veeru’s narrative has some resemblance to the Hollywood hits - 48 Hours, Lethal Weapon, Rush Hour and even apna Jackie Shroff - Anil Kapoor starrer ‘Andar Bahar’. Fardeen Khan and Kunal Khemu star in the hilarious saga of a cop, a crook and a beautiful friendship gone sour in Jai Veeru. Debutant director Pryas Gupta’s Siddharth, the Prisoner conveys the message of Rig Veda and Gautam Buddha. Rig Veda teaches that man is a prisoner of his desires and freedom comes with renunciation. The film Siddharth, The Prisoner begins with Siddharth Roy (Rajat Kapoor), who once a famous writer, has just been released from prison. He has narrowly missed Booker prize. While in his dingy quarters, he completes another novel typing it out in the cell. The film is a story of a simple ordinary man who led an extra ordinary life. Jugaad, movie review
Jugaad, a film based on a real life incident is a hilarious take on the infamous sealing drive by the Municipal Corporation (MCD) that rocked New Delhi in 2007-08. The film is set entirely in Delhi and is shot at actual locations to lend authenticity to the proceedings. The victim – CEO of an ad agency owner has no way out of the impasse and thus tries to overcome it by resorting to temporary settlement is what we call ‘jugaad’. This happened to many families who were victimized by this drive and even won public sympathy even though they had entered into unauthorized constructions.
