Masti ki tijori, loot le is diwali…

Loot, movie review

Loot is a comedy drama about misadventures of four petty thieves Panditji (Govinda) and his buddy Akbar (Jaaved Jaaferi), joined by Builder (Suniel Shetty) and Wilson (Mahakshay Chakraborty). This foursome work for Batliwala (Dalip Tahil) and are entrusted with the responsibility of carrying out a robbery in Pattaya, Thailand. Loot movie review…

The four criminals are sent on a mission to Pattaya to rob a house filled with priceless valuables. Reaching there, and carrying out the orders, the find out that they have robbed the wrong person. This misadventure lands themselves in a mess with a dreaded don Lala (Mahesh Manjrekar) thirsting for their blood.

Unknowingly they happen to get in the way of an Indian Intelligence agent VP Singh (Ravi Kissen) who has been keeping an eye on Lala.

Apart from looting the cash, they empty the safe of Lala, which also contained some audio cassettes which have evidence of Lala plotting to wipe off the Senior don (Prem Chopra) whose supremacy spreads across Thailand and other territories.

Batliwala has his personal motive to get hold of the cassettes which could lead to elimination of Khan, so that Lala can reign supreme, while Batliwala intends to free his brother who is in Thailand’s prison. But the Indian Intelligence officer has other plans and enters a deal with Batliwala to free Batliwala’s brother and in return wants to make a huge cash deal.

With an obsolete story, not so funny gags, this film lacks fizz. Directed by Rajnish Raj Thakur, the film doesn’t stand on its feet right from the beginning where Govinda and Jaaved Jaafrey are introduced to Builder (Sunil Shetty) who just appears lost in this drama.

There are other characters in Loot like Mika Singh and Kim Sharma, who are the locals in Thailand, and they too seem to appear disengaged in the story.

It could have been a better masala film which just entertains without any logic in the plot or the storyline. However, it is a let down with its sloppy script. Unfortunately even with Govinda and Javed Jaffrey the film does not even evoke any comedy.

Govinda has maintained his comic timing and he carries off some witty lines with amazing ease. Jaaved Jaaferi too does a fine job, while Mahakshay and Suniel Shetty seem uncomfortable throughout the drama. The sexy Shweta Bhardwaj does have a song and dance number. Kim Sharma is almost sidelined, while Prem Chopra and Mahesh Manjrekar have something in this otherwise dull action comedy drama.
