Mrs Serial Killer (2020)
Chanced upon a little known gory murder mystery which goes by the name of Mrs Serial Killer is streaming now on Netflix and would have gone unnoticed if I was not sifting through the movies that I want to see. Released almost a year ago, Mrs Serial Killer is really less known as there was no fanfare or much hype and hoola created on its launch. It has got a few A-listers in its acting roll call namely Jacqueline Fernandez in the title role and also the protagonist is the new slasher in town and Manoj Bajpai plays her doctor husband with Mohit Raina playing a cop who is also her ex-lover, you get the love triangle drift by now isn't it? The other characters, there is nothing much to write home about they flit in ànd out throughout the movie. For many years after the era of family dramas and emotional stuff and then during the Khanna-Bachchan era there were hardly any movies made on the lives of real life heroes. As our young nation at that time clamoured for either a romantic lover or later for the angry young man tales and action as if they were searching for a quick fix hero who could do anything and everything. Mumbai Saga (2021)
Yet another gangster movie Mumbai Saga explores the period between mid eighties and mid nineties when Mumbai's small scale businesses were run on the mercy of the local strong man who would take protection money from these small and roadside enterprises. The film had a theatrical release on 19 March 2021 and is now streaming on Prime. Mumbai Saga also explores the unholy nexus between the Police-Politician and the gangster. This was a strange period as the at one hand the polititians provided protection as well as encouraged intergang rivalry as and when it deemed fit in their scheme of things. On the other hand they also ordered the police to finish off the gang in encounters when the gangs became too hot to handle for them or they grew bigger than their own shoes. Roohi (2021) movie review
Every once in a while there comes along a movie which is projected to be a much awaited movie but it turns out to be a damp squib. This movie Roohi that is now streaming on Netflix was theatrically released on 11 March 2021. Due to the Pandemic situation, only those films releasing on OTT platforms are being reviewed. Roohi appears to be starting off from where we left off in Stree with Rajkumar Rao again donning a role of a village bumpkin who reports for a fraud type newspaper called something like Jazirabad Jaljala which does'nt even make a wave leave alone a jaljala which means tsunami. Rao is paired with a bumchum in the name of Atthanni or is it Katanni played by an irritating and over the top hamming Varun Sharma, such a waste of his so called acting talents. A film believed to be inspired by the Harshad Mehta story starting in the late eighties of the last century. The Big Bull movie review... There is no doubt that Harshad was the original Big Bull of Stock markets in India and who knows if he would have been left to his tools, he could not only have been the first billionaire from India but could also have been in company of Warren Buffett for all we know. The movie Big Bull is now streaming on Disney Hotstar. This one can be given a skip, no offense meant to Abhishek fans, he has tried really hard to put in his best. The movie is of the now rare thriller genre in Hindi cinema. Girl on the Train revolves around three beautiful women namely Parineeti Chopra, Aditi Rao Hydari and Kirti Kulhari. Whoever has seen the first part in Malyalam or Hindi is sure to be a fan of this film and now there is ever reason to be happy as the film Drishyam 2 comes with its second installment in Malyalam. This time and it is already being touted to be remade in Hindi, there are reports that Kumar Mangat has paid a huge sum for the story and the old cast will be repeated. Back to Drishyam 2. This again is solely carried on his shoulders by the Malayali power house actor Mohanlal... there aren't words to describe his skills. The story starts 6 years after the inquest where George Kutty (Mohanlal) is exonerated of the murder of the Inspector General's son. Coolie No 2 (2020) movie review
What is a sure shot formula for a movie's success? A good script, direction, acting or is it screenplay or none of the above. It is but rehash- and that's right, as this seems to be the current flavour for success. Refurbish one's own movies and serving it afresh with new production values, a new star cast and new settings. This is what David Dhavan has done with his own Coolie No 1  (this is his second one after Judwaa). Is it a dearth of new scripts, or did the director find some flaws in his original which he wanted to rectify (if that is the case, then he fails miserably) or was it a tribute to the original that was released in 1995 and now celebrating its Silver Jubilee year? The original Coolie No 1 with Govinda and Karishma was an entertainer and delight to watch. This time around he has taken his son Varun Dhavan to reprise the role of Raju coolie and Sara Ali Khan appears ....

Torbaaz movie review
Torbaaz is the latest offering streaming on the Netflix platform that is written and directed by Girish Malik. It is a story of orphaned refugee children staying in camps on the borders of Afghanistan adjacent to Pakistan, whose parents have either died in Fidayeen attacks (suicide bombings) or whose parents have been Fidayeen themselves. Fidayeens are the self sacrificing human bombs who for their own religious cause perpetrate suicide bombings. What could have been a story of victory over the evil forces of self-proclaimed groups who in the garb of changing the system or ethnic cleansing are but perpetrating terrorism, and thus Torbaaz turns out a damp squib. The Talibani terrorists target the refugee children of fidayeen attacks and shamelessly train them to be suicide bombers.
