Student Of The Year is a Dharma Productions venture, directed by Karan Johar himself. The film was much awaited and popular among the youth who is also the target audience of this film. The story of “SOTY” revolves around a school St. Teresa managed by Dean Yogender Vashisht (Rishi Kapoor), where students are divided into 2 groups- “The Tata” and “The Bata” groups so to say the rich kids who get in on monetary basis and the students who get admission on the basis of their merit and scholarships. The story written (and directed) by Rian Johnson, is about the year 2074 where time travel is invented, which is now used by criminal organizations for the sole motive – to send them back 30 years back and they are assassinated by Loopers. So, in 2074, the time travel machine will be invented - but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a "looper" - a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt)- is waiting to mop up. Exactly, Looper is a low level assassin who works for a mob in the future (in this case 2074) and their assignment is to kill each target they are sent back to 2044 and then dispose off their bodies.
