Masoom - 1982
Released in 1982, Masoom is adapted from the famous novel Man, Woman and Child by Eric Segal. It was Shekhar Kapur’s (Dev Anand’s nephew) debut directorial venture. Masoom is considered to be one of the most sensitively handled project, with the illegitimate child angle. With lyrics and screenplay written by Gulzar it was a formula bound for success. This is one of the projects of Kapur which did see the light of day. Masoom is a story of a child’s innocence and the film has brilliant music by none other than R.D. Burman with “Do naina ek kahani”, “Tujhse naraz nahin zindagi” topping the charts and the eponymous “Lakdi ki Kathi” which became the childhood anthem of sorts. Mr India 1987
The first real big hit for Anil Kapoor, but more than his acting it was the element of sci-fi in the story which was the hero, as Anil himself was invisible in half the movie. The big hit that it was, Mr India was also one of the few directorial ventures of Shekhar Kapoor which he actually completed. A subsequent sequel for this movie was also planned with the same actors but was shelved after the death of Sridevi, its heroine. Recently again this movie was in the news as a trilogy was planned which Shekhar has opposed vehemently, even threatening to go to court against the makers. Sridevi an established heroine was paid the highest ever price for any heroine at the time. Actually Mr India could easily be called Miss India for the way Sridev played the character, with the hero being invisible in better part of the movie. The film opens with a man made disaster. The Dam designed and executed in its erection was carried out by a US multinational and it was headed by a talented NRI Ravi. Married 2 America movie review... Ravi Malhotra, an NRI living in the US, works for the mighty Larsan & Jason, a US based multinational which is into huge infrastructure projects throughout the world. They build dams and bridges. One of its recent contracts was in India - the Dharbhanga Dam project in Bihar in the district of Saurabhpur. It was planned and executed with a hundred years warranty, by their top architect and engineer Ravi Malhotra. But within a few years, three of the dam's gates are burst open, leaving hundreds of people dead, thousands are rendered homeless and public property worth crores washed down in floods. Chirag Mehra (Chirag Paswan) is a grown up kind hearted young guy who is always eager to help the poor people. He is a wonderful individual and seems to be liked by one and all. Miley naa Miley Hum movie review... His parents have separated so he has to be half the time with his father Mr Mehra (Kabeer Bedi) who is comfortably rich and owns acres of vineyard. The usual Nagesh Kukunoor films are small budget films, with new stars and having a backdrop of secluded locations, thus they are low cost films, but the films stories linger in your memory. Mod begins well, but as it proceeds, it runs out of breath. Mod is an official remake of a Taiwanese film ‘Chen Shui de Qing Chun’ which means Keeping watch. Mod is a heartfelt, emotional love story between two completely mismatched people. Aranya, a “full-of-life” 25 yr old, lives in the sleepy and idyllic hill station, Ganga.
