Himesh Reshammiya is back with Xpose Cinematic Universe’s latest film Badass Ravi Kumar. The film sets out to entertain you like no other in recent times. Himesh Reshammiya’s portrayal of the titular character of the super cop Ravi Kumar is so unselfconsciously over the top that it’s quite hard not to get sucked in. And what exactly I like about the film is the way Himesh has made it clear right in the beginning that the film literally screams in bold, flashy letters: “Logic is optional.” You are taken back on a time machine to the golden old 70’s and 80’s
It is stupidity on our part to look out for a plot in this film but it is just enough to state that there is a typical love triangle too in the film, when two sisters Laila (Kirti Kulhari) and Madhubala (Simona J) are head over heels in love with Ravi Kumar (Himesh Reshammiya), who, a la Allu Arjun in Pushpa is all moustache and beard, very unlike a hardcore cop and conveniently Ravi loves just only one of them.
The badass cop based in Delhi is out on a mission to eradicate corruption from our system. He is suspended from his service because he doesn’t go by rules and is politically incorrect. Syed Bashir (Manish Wadhwa), Pedro (Prabhu Deva) and Laila (Kirti Kulhari) are all running behind a camera reel which contains information about Indian secret agents. And it is the duty of Badass Ravi to run behind them and end up victorious after snatching away the prize camera after a lot of chases, that too in Muscat.
Himesh Reshammiya’s chest-thumping patriotism and heavy-duty dialogues (courtesy of Bunty Rathore), such as “Jo Ravi Kumar se ulajhta hai, uske photo pe haar chadh jaata hai,” though hilarious fail to leave a lasting impact. Set in 1989, the story follows Ravi Kumar, the rogue cop determined to eradicate corruption and take down the baddies. Himesh Reshammiya is in top form regaling the viewers.
Kirti Kulhari shines in a role where she has to display a lot of oomph though she is also in a way the leading lady of the film. Simona J fails to emote while Sunny Leone does what she is capable of- wriggling her bottom in seductive dance numbers. Johny Lever is wasted. So is Sanjay Mishra whereas Prabhu Deva has been reduced to play a dancing joker-villain. The film’s running time is 142 minutes.
