Second list of nominated films for Jaipur International Film Festival is out
101 films from 20 countries are selected in the second list
30 jury members from 18 countries have selected the films
JIFF is going to happen online from 15th to 19th January 2021
This phase of worldwide pandemic is a time to stay alert, for all of us. Jaipur International Film Festival 2021 is going to kick off, keeping all these safety measures in mind. The festival is going to take place from 15th to 19th January 2021, all online and virtual. Besides; Festival depends upon the circumstances of the pandemic in Jaipur and India and government’s instructions. This is a proud moment for JIFF as its going to be 13th continuous edition of the Festival.
It’s worth mentioning that Jaipur International Film Festival has established its place as the Biggest Competitive Film Festival in the category of Fiction Films.
JIFF founder Hanu Roj informed that 101 (49 from India and 52 from abroad) films from 20 countries are selected this time. First List released on 5th November included 161 films from 38 countries. These films are chosen out of 2121 films from 85 countries; received till the month of November. The selection process is performed by a selection board consisting 30 members from 18 countries.
Last year, 219 Films from 65 countries were received and 54 Films from 14 countries were submitted in the Second List. These films were selected out of 2411 films from 98 countries.
Due to the pandemic, 15% less films are submitted this time. Simultaneously, the growth has also been impacted, but despite all this, only 10 less films are chosen in this list.
JIFF spokesperson Rajendra Boda informed that the selected films for various competitions include 27 Feature Fiction Films | 7 Documentary Feature Films| 48 Short Fiction Films | 5 Short Documentary Films | 1 Short Animation Films | 4 Mobile Films | 1 Web Series | 7 Student’s Films and 1 Song.
JIFF has received Films from Norway, Iran, USA, India, China, Pakistan, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Czech Republic, Austria, Spain, Republic of Korea, Thailand, Sweden, Taiwan, United Kingdom, Canada, Portugal, Yemen, France and New Zealand. Rare or no Films are submitted by countries, which are fighting poverty.
International prestigious award winning director’s films have also been selected in the Festival
Bittu, an Indian film is directed by Karishma Dubey. This Oscar winning short fiction film is 17 minutes long.
Sheer Korma is a 30 minutes Short Fiction Indian Film, directed by Faraj Arif Ansari. Actors like Shabana Azmi, Swara Bhaskar and Divya Dutta make the film special. Sheer Qorma is a story of belonging and acceptance, identity and family told through courageous, queer women choose to embrace love that exists beyond their personal beliefs and social moralities.
Atkan Chatkan is definitely a special film, a children’s musical drama, where the phenomenal music has been composed by OSCAR Award Winner, Padma Bhushan A R Rahman. Approximately 2 hours long feature fiction film has been directed by Shiv Hare.
The Silent Party is an 87 minutes long Feature Fiction Film from Argentina | Brazil. It’s made in Spanish and directed by Diego Fried. Just hours before her wedding party at her father’s ranch, Laura sets out on her own and finds an unusual party. The music and the vibe relax her from the stress, but a violent act changes the course of the night and of her life, implicating her father and fiancé.
Film critics considered it as one of the 20 best Argentine films to be release at 2020.
Two films from Rajasthan
Feature fiction film Maharo Govind is made in rajasthani language. This 2 hour long film is directed by Manzoor Ali. 12 minute short fiction film Shatranj has also been selected, which is directed by Tapan Bhatt.
