Tezaab 1988
A poignant offering of sorts, Tezaab is a story of the youth of the time by N. Chandra who had earlier made hard hitting films like Pratighaat and Ankush, this was his Magnum Opus. Tezaab literally means acid, is about injustice in society which creates rebelliousness in the youth, taking them to the wrong side of the law. Thus the youth who would have been the nation builders, are only fuming acid due to the system. Released 11th November 1988, Tezaab was the relaunch vehicle for Madhuri Dixit who achieved superstardom shaking her hips to the tunes of ‘Ek, do, teen’, before this she was seen in the forgettable ‘Abodh’. Mr India 1987
The first real big hit for Anil Kapoor, but more than his acting it was the element of sci-fi in the story which was the hero, as Anil himself was invisible in half the movie. The big hit that it was, Mr India was also one of the few directorial ventures of Shekhar Kapoor which he actually completed. A subsequent sequel for this movie was also planned with the same actors but was shelved after the death of Sridevi, its heroine. Recently again this movie was in the news as a trilogy was planned which Shekhar has opposed vehemently, even threatening to go to court against the makers. Sridevi an established heroine was paid the highest ever price for any heroine at the time. Actually Mr India could easily be called Miss India for the way Sridev played the character, with the hero being invisible in better part of the movie. Tashan movie review
Right at the start, a blood red convertible Mercedes races merrily through Ladakh's dusty terrain. This is what Tashan is about - The car swivels so does the radio nervously shuffle between AC/DC's Highway to Hell and Mukesh's rendition of Kabhi Kabhie. Huge canvas, beautiful landscape and then the car loses it control, breaks thru and goes down a lake…. Very impressive till now and one would expect that it will be the most thrilling 2 and half hours in the recent times of mediocre bollywood films. But it was disappointing. Debutant director Vijay Krishna Acharya is brilliant in a few scenes, has been supported by absolutely unbelievable stunts by Akshay Kumar and some truly exotic locales, but through the remaining parts of Tashan, it appears that Yash Raj Banner is experimenting with the Indian audience. The master director Subhash Ghai is back not with a bang, but with a convincing restraint in his latest film Black and White. Welcome
Yet another rib tickling film by director Anees Bazmee who continues his successful run in comedy movies and this time a bit of more drama and masala to make the proceedings more tangy.
