A romantic action-comedy film Main Tera Hero directed by David Dhawan which brings back memories of his entertaining films with Govinda of the 90s. The difference here is that it is devoid of any double meaning jokes and aims to entertain the family audience.
Main Tera Hero – movie review…
It is the remake of the Telugu film Kandireega. This one is Produced By Shobha Kapoor & Ekta Kapoor. It is their first out and out masala commercial family comedy drama. It is an entertaining romantic drama lacks logic and is high on theatrics targeted at the masses, which takes Our Hero from the mountainous Ooty, to the fun college campus of Bangalore, and then to a beautiful mansion, in visitors paradise Thailand.
Our Love Story begins with the Mischievous, Clever, Charming, a Daredevil and the HERO – Seenu (Varun Dhawan) who falls in love with Sunaina (Ileana D’cruz).
How can a Hero’s love story be complete without a villain! So walks in Angad (Arunoday Singh) the corrupt cop, who wants to forcibly marry Ileana and to make things more spicy also does Ayesha (Nargis Fakhri) who is madly in love with our Hero.
Seenu has failed again in his college, and has become a nuisance for his professor, the locals in Ooty and to some extent, for his parents. He decides to go to Bangalore with the conviction that he would return with a degree. Typical David Dhawan style, his parents remark, after he promises his father that he will get a college degree from Bangalore. His father tells his mother : Yeh Hume degree nahi third degree dega.
On his journey to Bangalore, Seenu confronts the goons who are harassing the girls in the bus mouthing the often used dialogue: Mein dikhta hoon swami type ka par hoon ekdum harami type ka. He fights them single handedly and become a hero amongst the girls.
On the first day of his college in Bangalore, he instantly falls in love with Sunaina (Ileana DCruz), unaware that Inspector Angad (Arunoday Singh) has terrorized her and wouldn’t let her even speak to other boys in the college.
Seenu outwits Angad, mentors Sunaina to gather guts to come out against the cop, and just as they openly move around, Sunaina is kidnapped and taken to Thailand. The cop has joined hands with the don in Thailand, since the don’s daughter Ayesha (Nargis Fakhri) has fallen in love with our Hero and Seenu is then summoned to Thailand.
It is full of corny dialogues that transport you to David Dhawan-Govinda era of the 1990s.
Filled with quite a few senseless scenes in the film Main Tera Hero where Seenu is often seen talking to idols and the Gods reply, referring to him as “Abey, Main bhagwaan hoon Powai se leke Hawai tak har jagah udta hoon’. The other worth a mention is girls talking within themselves, Nargis Fakhri to Ileana D’Cruz ‘Jab se main pamper mein thi tab se mere dad mujhe pamper karte aa rahe hai’
Varun Dhawan displays his six packs, dances well and doesn’t need to emote much, Nargis Fakhri looks stunning, despite that her own voice needs immense improvements, Ileana DCruz is just about passable.
Some of the songs in this film such as “Besharmi Ki Height”, Palat – Tera Hero Idhar Hai and Shanivaar Raati are foot tapping numbers and are playing in the top of the charts.
Main Tera Hero lacks proper storyline, which is craftily covered up with fast pace of the film. Main Tera Hero can be summed with Saurabh Shukla’s dialogue to Anupam Kher in the film: Jaise English mein proof kehta Hindi mein saboot kehte hai, waise hi aap jaiso ko (can be applied to the audience) har language mein bewakoof kehta hai
