BLINDSIDED – Hindi movie review

Tacky and Lopsided!

Blindsided movie review

After losing his eyesight during a botched operation in Pak-occupied Kashmir, a soldier preparing to start a new life with his fiancée finds his world getting torn apart when two dreaded criminals enter their home looking for stolen diamonds. Blindsided is written and directed by KD Sandhu (also featuring him as the antagonist Rolex), opens with a covert operation in Kashmir.

When his mysterious fiancée’s history resurfaces, it leads to tragic consequences, forcing Jaideep to confront his enemies despite his blindness. Jaideep (Udhay Bir Sandhu), who has been gravely rendered blind as the mission turns out to be a trap, finds solace in a happy life with his fiancée, Jennifer (Farha Khan), who harbors a secret from her past.

Blindsided The film’s central idea—a blind soldier trapped in his home with ruthless criminals, each trying to outwit the other—is by no means an original one and hence lacks potential. The uneven script also introduces several mind games, with Jaideep attempting to manipulate Sophia against Rolex, but when character development goes haywire and exaggerated dialogues, and uninspired treatment dilute the impact, you are led nowhere.

Performances in this otherwise tacky and long film are largely unremarkable. Udhay Bir Sandhu, Farha Khan, KD Sandhu, and Akanksha Shandil are all passable, with the two leading ladies executing action scenes effectively, keeping in mind the front benchers.

Some of the creative choices that were made on the technical front are not at all necessarily to my liking. For one, the approach to lighting is very minimal, so much so that you often can’t see a lot of what’s in the frame. Not to mention, with the plot almost wafer thin and logic totally lacking, the color grading also is extremely washed out, and when you’re already in a climate as gloomy as this one, it doesn’t quite make for the best of visuals.

To sum up, all that I can say is that Blindsided is tacky and lopsided and does not at all set out to make good use of whatever suspense, shadowing, and cinematography to set a nice thriller edge to the movie and unfortunately the story fails to progress into an intense, chilling outing and makes you cringe on your seat waiting when the end credits will start unfolding.
