Ananth Mahadevan’s Bittersweet has been selected in the – Indian Language’s film competition amongst other films in the Kolkata International Film festival (KIFF), one of India’s premier film festivals that is slated from November 5 to November 12, 2020.
On Bittersweet being selected at KIFF 2020, Ananth Mahadevan says, “The Kolkata film festival selection has always been extremely competitive and hence Bittersweet featuring in the Indian competition makes it more momentous. Mai Ghat winning the Best film last year had instilled a great sense of inspiration and Bittersweet could be a result of that. All said and done being selected in back-to-back editions of KIFF is something to cherish.”
Bittersweet is a Marathi film about women workers in the sugar fields of Beed district in Maharashtra, who are forced to get a hysterectomy to survive, has also got an entry into the main competition in the prestigious Busan International Film festival.
Ananth Narayan Mahadevan’s film stars Akshayaa Gurav and is produced by Suchhanda and Shubha Shetty under Quest Films Pvt Ltd. who are aiming to send the film to the Oscars. It deals with an issue that resonates with every woman and resonates with human exploitation while the protagonist has to face the ire of the sugar barons, political forces and other powerful people in the society. The other cast of Ananth’s film are Anil Nagarkar, Guru Thakur, Asit Redig and Suresh Vishwakarma.
