The Family Man Season 2
The much awaited and delayed series - The Family Man Season 2 from Raj and DK which set the OTT agog last year with its Season 1 with its superior storytelling and screenplay is here on Amazon Prime in its Second Season. Though it was shot as a web series, one always felt that The Family Man was cinema. After its stupendous success people were clamoring for the sequel series and though delayed it did not disappoint. In the words of the lead man Manoj Bajpayee, 'The new season is definitely bigger and better', that about sums up what to expect from the Season 2. Season 1 dealt with Pak backed insurgency in Kashmir, what with one rogue ISI mastermind Sameer perpetrating a near annihilation of our country's capital with a gas leak. The same guy rears his head again, this time in collaboration with the Tamil rebels of Sri Lanka. Though this theme will look a bit dated because Sri Lanka ....

Wonder Woman 1984 movie review
Another Hollywood extravaganza is Wonder Woman 1984 that has been recently released on Amazon. A superhero flick this time not from MCU (Marvel Comics Universe) but from DCU (DC comics Universe) the franchise which counts Superman and Batman in the legion of their superheros apart from Wonder Woman. With such antecedents we expected some great script, screenplay and action in this flick specially as it had to live upto its predecessor which did provide wholesome entertainment. Wonder Woman 1984 review... However it fails miserably in all departments. Even the chemistry between the lead characters that was great in the previous WW movie is missing and looks forced in this film. The opening scene is of typical Hollywood grandeur a Potterisque competition in an open stadium, the spectacle is definitely breathtaking to be seen on the big screen. Once the pandemic is over and the movie rel ....

Sardar Ka Grandson 2021 movie review
The latest hindi movie trending on Netflix is Sardar ka Grandson. Don't be fooled by the title of this movie as the Sardar in this movie played by John Abraham is long dead, it is his Sardarni first played by Aditi Rao Hydari and later by an old hag and hamming Neena Gupta who is the real Sardar - Sardar Kaur. Nostalgia can be dangerous as it can be our death wish. That is exactly what the film is about. A dying woman's wish to see her house in 'where the eagles dare' Pakistan. A Grandson who wants to fulfill this death wish by all means fair or foul. This movie seems to be a tribute to the Home movers of the world. I mean literally, well that's the grandson's great grand plan, because if dadi can't go to Pak, because she once pulled the dadhi and broke a bottle on the head of a Pakistani official in a cricket match, but the house can come to her. The same Paki guy now with a short ....

Mrs Serial Killer (2020)
Chanced upon a little known gory murder mystery which goes by the name of Mrs Serial Killer is streaming now on Netflix and would have gone unnoticed if I was not sifting through the movies that I want to see. Released almost a year ago, Mrs Serial Killer is really less known as there was no fanfare or much hype and hoola created on its launch. It has got a few A-listers in its acting roll call namely Jacqueline Fernandez in the title role and also the protagonist is the new slasher in town and Manoj Bajpai plays her doctor husband with Mohit Raina playing a cop who is also her ex-lover, you get the love triangle drift by now isn't it? The other characters, there is nothing much to write home about they flit in ànd out throughout the movie. The thing that irritates you as the movie begins, is that the events are too sudden and in your face, disjoint and the characters behave as if ....

Saina movie review
For many years after the era of family dramas and emotional stuff and then during the Khanna-Bachchan era there were hardly any movies made on the lives of real life heroes. As our young nation at that time clamoured for either a romantic lover or later for the angry young man tales and action as if they were searching for a quick fix hero who could do anything and everything. Saina movie review... The audiences went to cinema for entertainment where logic hardly played any role, however in the last few years things have changed as the nation has matured, we needed real heroes whose life would inspire the desires of a billion people. We have seen a spate of biographical movies mostly on the lives of famous athletes or sports persons, some on famous freedom fighters and some surprisingly even on the lives of gangsters. Movies like Dangal, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Sardar, MS Dhoni An unto ....

Mumbai Saga (2021)
Yet another gangster movie Mumbai Saga explores the period between mid eighties and mid nineties when Mumbai's small scale businesses were run on the mercy of the local strong man who would take protection money from these small and roadside enterprises. The film had a theatrical release on 19 March 2021 and is now streaming on Prime. Mumbai Saga also explores the unholy nexus between the Police-Politician and the gangster. This was a strange period as the at one hand the polititians provided protection as well as encouraged intergang rivalry as and when it deemed fit in their scheme of things. On the other hand they also ordered the police to finish off the gang in encounters when the gangs became too hot to handle for them or they grew bigger than their own shoes. This movie is made in the same mould and style like say the 'Shootout at Wadala' or 'A Shootout at Lokhandwala' and i ....

Roohi (2021) movie review
Every once in a while there comes along a movie which is projected to be a much awaited movie but it turns out to be a damp squib. This movie Roohi that is now streaming on Netflix was theatrically released on 11 March 2021. Due to the Pandemic situation, only those films releasing on OTT platforms are being reviewed. Roohi appears to be starting off from where we left off in Stree with Rajkumar Rao again donning a role of a village bumpkin who reports for a fraud type newspaper called something like Jazirabad Jaljala which does'nt even make a wave leave alone a jaljala which means tsunami. Rao is paired with a bumchum in the name of Atthanni or is it Katanni played by an irritating and over the top hamming Varun Sharma, such a waste of his so called acting talents. All through the movie as soon we feel now the story is building up it drops like a tonne of bricks with the two bumpk ....

The Big Bull Movie review
A film believed to be inspired by the Harshad Mehta story starting in the late eighties of the last century. The Big Bull movie review... There is no doubt that Harshad was the original Big Bull of Stock markets in India and who knows if he would have been left to his tools, he could not only have been the first billionaire from India but could also have been in company of Warren Buffett for all we know. The movie Big Bull is now streaming on Disney Hotstar. This one can be given a skip, no offense meant to Abhishek fans, he has tried really hard to put in his best. Enough about the man because the story digresses from the topic several times in the movie it seems that the director though wanted to tell Harshad's story but in the same breath also tries to distance away from it. That's the reason why the names and many incidents in the story have been tweaked and some have totall ....

Pagglait (2021) movie review
How does a young girl, who is on the threshold of being a woman feel when her young husband passes away? How do you react, what do you do, what do you speak?... Then you become stoic when the whole world is watching you and wonder why you are not crying, have you gone crazy? Like the song playing in the background throughout the movie. Pagglait movie review... Welcome to this Pagglait who asks for Pepsi and chips when asked for tea. The movie is a roller coaster ride of feelings and perceptions post a young death in a family. How things playout around a young widow set in a town somewhere in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It is a film about old values in a middle class family and how things change with circumstances. Sandhya (Sania Malhotra) the protagonist is the young widow barely a few months into her marriage, when she looses her husband Astik, though the young man is thankfully n ....

Don (1978) movie review
At the cost of being labelled a die hard Big-B fan, this eponymous film has to be added to the list to our Retro Gems section sheerly on the strength of its popularity due to its story, screenplay and of course Amitabh Bachchan in antipodal double role of a sauve but hardened gangster and a Kohl-eyed bumpkin. There was novelty in the story but it was such that it could have even back-fired. It were Amar Akbar Anthony, Trishul before this and Kasme Vaade after this that propelled the already popular star Amitabh Bachchan to new heights of megastardom. It was his decade and the 'Chora Ganga Kinarewala' had made it big in this cut throat world of Hindi film industry. Whatever he did or touched turned to gold; take for example the song 'khaike paan banaraswala' which was introduced right at the height of tension when the hero and the heroine are trying to escape from the goons, the scene ....
