I am Singh - movie review
The film is inspired by real people and events. I am Singh is about the Sikhs who were victims of mistaken identity and hate crimes post 9/11. It also deals with the pride and honor of a Sikh's turban. Not only were the Sikhs mistaken to be some other community, they were mistaken to be terrorists and they were a target of racist and communal violence from the American society. People belonging to the Islamic community experienced this similar treatment. Due to the unfortunate happenings of 9/11 and the culprits involved being Muslims, the entire Islamic community was being targeted in America. I am Singh is about how a young man caught in the middle of a conspiracy, stands up to attain justice for his family, for his identity of being an Indian, of being a Sikh. Few Indians are aware of the number of suicides that occur in Indian Hostels as a result of the phenomenon termed as ‘Ragging’. This sadistic practice has become a ritual wherein students are beaten up, stripped, paraded naked, starved, tortured, molested and even raped by their seniors. Hostel movie review... Since victims of ragging find it humiliating to report sexual abuse to their parents or others, most ragging-related crimes go unreported. Superstar, movie review
Kunal Khemu is the star in the film Superstar that is about an aspiring actor who wants to make it big in Bollywood. Not only a fine actor, he can actually carry a film on his shoulders. Superstar has the backdrop of Bollywood to showcase a story of look-alikes who by chance switch their fortunes in an industry where there is only one God: Money. The finest part of this film is that it not pro or anti any religion. It squarely points fingers at people who spread terror in the name of religion.
