Haseen Dillruba movie review
'Jawani janeman haseen dillruba, mile do Dil Jawan nisar Ho Gaya, Shikari khud yahan shikar Ho Gaya' thus sang Parveen Babi in Namak Halaal at that time we never visualised or even thought in our wildest dreams that we will be viewing and reviewing two vastly different movies which are titled with the first two letters and then the subsequent two letters of the song. So we had a dud in Jawani Janeman of Saif not too long ago, my sympathies with Aliyah Furniturewala, now it's the turn of Haseen Dilruba which is aptly described in the follow up line of the song i.e. Shikari Khud yahan shikaar ho gaya, any which way you see it. Now streaming on Netflix fresh out of Bollywood oven - which has this as it's catch line 'A damsel in distress or a devil's mistress' presenting the effervescent 'Haseen Dillruba'. The Little Things movie review
Streaming on Amazon is The Little Things - one of the better made psychological murder mysteries, starring some formidable actors from the the current stock in Hollywood namely Denzel Washington, who needs no introduction and Rami Malek, the guy who shot to fame playing our own Freddie Mercury's character in the 2018 Queen's biopic 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. Even the antagonist is played by another well known Hollywood face, Jared Leto. The movie explores art of deduction as Deacon, known as Deke to one and all, played by Washington literally takes the newbie precocious detective Baxter under his wings, though Baxter is good but has a stiff nose, who has joined in Deke's place in the LAPD precinct he was famous in. Deke explains the small nuances of crime and murder detection which if overlooked will leave the cases unsolved and will literally be shelved in cold case files. The camarader ....

The latest OTT offering on Disney+Hotstar, GRAHAN is a police - politics drama about re-investigation of cases of anti Sikh riots of 1984 in the aftermath of the then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's killing by her own Sikh bodyguards. Set in Ranchi in 2016 Grahan revisits in intervening flashbacks to 1984 to Bokaro which was home to a small Sikh trading community who like elsewhere in India were a target of public frenzy whipped up by zealous politians for their own political interests. Grahan is loosely based on the novel 'Chaurasi' by Satya Vyas. It is a romantic story of the past in turbulent times and it's effect on current political scene. It is an eight part series with each episode approximately 40-50 minute duration. Sherni movie review
A movie without any hype, however it is a refreshing tiger tale, providing succor from the mundane commercial cinema. The Sherni here does not allude to the heroine or her character in the movie, Vidya, but is about an actual tigress T-12 who has now turned a man- eater. The wild cat is on her trail that everybody is on and so is the film. The Forest Department's officer Vidya Balan wants to contain the damage that the tigress is causing while jumping from jungle to jungle along with her two cubs to find a final resting place. She wants to save the animal and human life both, from men who find hunting down wild animals as their passion and gives them a machismomatic kick. The Family Man Season 2
The much awaited and delayed series - The Family Man Season 2 from Raj and DK which set the OTT agog last year with its Season 1 with its superior storytelling and screenplay is here on Amazon Prime in its Second Season. Though it was shot as a web series, one always felt that The Family Man was cinema. After its stupendous success people were clamoring for the sequel series and though delayed it did not disappoint. In the words of the lead man Manoj Bajpayee, 'The new season is definitely bigger and better', that about sums up what to expect from the Season 2. Season 1 dealt with Pak backed insurgency in Kashmir, what with one rogue ISI mastermind Sameer perpetrating a near annihilation of our country's capital with a gas leak. The latest hindi movie trending on Netflix is Sardar ka Grandson. Don't be fooled by the title of this movie as the Sardar in this movie played by John Abraham is long dead, it is his Sardarni first played by Aditi Rao Hydari and later by an old hag and hamming Neena Gupta who is the real Sardar - Sardar Kaur. Nostalgia can be dangerous as it can be our death wish. That is exactly what the film is about. A dying woman's wish to see her house in 'where the eagles dare' Pakistan. A Grandson who wants to fulfill this death wish by all means fair or foul. This movie seems to be a tribute to the Home movers of the world. I mean literally, well that's the grandson's great grand plan, because if dadi can't go to Pak, because she once pulled the dadhi and broke a bottle on the head of a Pakistani official in a cricket match, but the house can come to her. Yet another gangster movie Mumbai Saga explores the period between mid eighties and mid nineties when Mumbai's small scale businesses were run on the mercy of the local strong man who would take protection money from these small and roadside enterprises. The film had a theatrical release on 19 March 2021 and is now streaming on Prime. Mumbai Saga also explores the unholy nexus between the Police-Politician and the gangster. This was a strange period as the at one hand the polititians provided protection as well as encouraged intergang rivalry as and when it deemed fit in their scheme of things. On the other hand they also ordered the police to finish off the gang in encounters when the gangs became too hot to handle for them or they grew bigger than their own shoes. Roohi (2021) movie review
Every once in a while there comes along a movie which is projected to be a much awaited movie but it turns out to be a damp squib. This movie Roohi that is now streaming on Netflix was theatrically released on 11 March 2021. Due to the Pandemic situation, only those films releasing on OTT platforms are being reviewed. Roohi appears to be starting off from where we left off in Stree with Rajkumar Rao again donning a role of a village bumpkin who reports for a fraud type newspaper called something like Jazirabad Jaljala which does'nt even make a wave leave alone a jaljala which means tsunami. Rao is paired with a bumchum in the name of Atthanni or is it Katanni played by an irritating and over the top hamming Varun Sharma, such a waste of his so called acting talents. A film believed to be inspired by the Harshad Mehta story starting in the late eighties of the last century. The Big Bull movie review... There is no doubt that Harshad was the original Big Bull of Stock markets in India and who knows if he would have been left to his tools, he could not only have been the first billionaire from India but could also have been in company of Warren Buffett for all we know.
