A former master-thief gets involved in a frantic search for his kidnapped daughter.
Stolen is a story about Montgomery, a father and a former thief played by Nicolas Cage whose daughter gets kidnapped. The movie is directed by Simon West who has also directed the blockbuster “The Expendables 2”.
It begins with a well planned heist at the Parish Bank. It is planned by a gang of four, which is a master plan of Nicholas Cage's character in the film. Everything goes as pre-planned. Except that Montgomery the chief of the gang – insists on just robbing the money and does not want any violence, especially any killing. He is betrayed by Vincent, his violent team member and the trio escape as they hear the police approaching them.
Montgomery loads the bag full of 10 million in hard cash and takes a police vehicle, but is chased by the FBI and eventually on reaching a dead end in a workshop, he decides to throw the cash bag in a furnace, rather than be caught red handed with the loot. In doing so, he gets a prision term of 8 years, instead of 14 if he would have been apprehended with the loot.
The story follows Will Montgomery (played by Nicolas Cage), a master thief who has been sent to prison for 8 years. Upon his release, he’s ready to leave his criminal past behind and rebuild his relationship with estranged daughter, Alison Loeb (played by Sami Gayle).
Montgomery’s former criminal cohorts and FBI agent Tim Harlend (played by Danny Huston), are all convinced that the loot, worth $10 Million dollars, was hidden away by Montgomery before he was sentenced.
In order to get his hands on it, former partner in crime, Vincent (played by Josh Lucas), kidnaps Alison and demands the loot as ransom.
Vincent believes that Montgomery had hidden the cash somewhere and insists on having his share. Montgomery is given just 12 hours to deliver the money to Vincent else his daughter will be eliminated. Vincent is serious about his demand and the deadline since he has suffered an amputed iron leg and the agonies he had to undergo after the fiasco of the well planned crime they had unsuccessfully executed 8 years ago.
Simon West and Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage have worked together in the past on 1997 blockbuster Con Air. Stolen is produced by Jesse Kennedy, Matthew Joynes and Ren Besson.
This fast paced action thriller is released in India thru Multivision Multimedia Ltd. The film wholly rests on Nicholas Cage's shoulder. Apart from fine action, there are some touching moments between the daughter and her father who wants to turn a new chapter in life. The climax is somewhat on the styles we see in apna Bollywood yet, it is a thrilling film, appreciated by Nicholas Cage fans.
