The Young duos have recreated a collection, by adding glamour to most loved and comfortable wear denims, so one can carry off style and glamour even if it’s plain denim. Known as the designer label ‘Siyaahi’ launched at LFW itself, the designers’ latest collection for the Winter/Festive Edition of the Lakme Fashion Week presents the new avatar of denim aptly named the ‘Starry Night’. Starry Night is inspired from a painting of Vincent Van Gogh and comprises of the various aspects of the painting like curves, depth, stability, composition and uses a mystifying colour palate of cool and dark colours of the night like indigo, black and white.

Together, this duo from Ahmedabad has created myriad designs that have given a new shine to traditional dresses under their now renowned brand ‘Siyaahi’. Meaning ‘ink’ in urdu, Siyaahi symbolises the aesthetic journey a dye undertakes from a delicate thought to an exquisite ethnic fashion. The brand has been working in tandem with the traditional Indian artisans mainly from Gujarat and has quite successfully brought their age-old craft to the mainstream market through contemporary designs.

Says the delighted duo, ‘We are very happy with the designs we have come up with. To add to it the colors we have used are bold, which give a classy look altogether. They add, ‘we are both fans of the French invention so we came up with this concept. Looking forward to the best.

Says Poonam, “The Show was fab- and also we are happy that Sana and Lauren represented our work on the ramp which has brought more excitement to the event altogether and specially Lauren truly created an extraordinary energy to open the show.”

Adds Rohit, “Lauren is from US and that’s the place that got denims its popularity on the other hand, Sana stands for our all girls back home India who love to experiment and go all out. Each of them has their own style which inturn compliments our designs as well.’

Known for rendering distinct and fresh twists to traditional elements, Poonam and Rohit strive in challenging their craft and the boundaries of art. While Poonam Sangani is adept in silhouettes, draping and surface designing, Rohit Dubey, a graduate from N.I.F.T, Gandhinagar (Textile Designing) is proficient in the technical aspects of fabrics and loves to explore the science behind the art.
